Willard Harold “Bud” Askren II, 63, of Covington, passed away at 8:20 a.m., Monday, February 22, 1999 at his home. He was born in Lafayette on March 27, 1935, the son of Richard Lawrence Askren and Lorraine (Blakely) Askren Silvestro. On May 24, 1958 he married Elizabeth Ann Cox in Catlin, Ill. She survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Gary. (Jeanne) Askren of Westville, Ill., Jerry (Molly) Askren of Danville, Ill. and Larry (Dawnn) Askren of Bloomington; two daughters, Teri ( Joe) Sermersheim and Sherri (Larry) Kuchefski, both of Danville, 111.; eight grandchildren, Amy, Katie and Emily Sermersheim, Brooke and Christopher Kuchefski, all of Danville, Ill., Buddy and Denton Askren, both of Westville, Ill. and Samuel Askren of Bloomington; four stepgrandchildren, Stephen and Ben Kuchefski, both of Danville, Ill. and Jan and Jeanne Castillo, both of Westville, Ill; two brothers, Richard (Pat) Askren of West Union, Ill. and Jim (Kay) Silvestro of Catlin, Ill.; three sisters, Marquerite (Dick) Blakeney of Westville, Ill., Sally (Marlin) Rossiter of Paris, Ill. and Mary (Tom) Seilhymer of Georgetown, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Askren, formerly of Attica. Following his graduation from Covington High School, Mr. Askren served two years in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper, then four years in the Army Reserve in Danville, Ill. He worked at Olin near Covington for 10 years, farmed in the rural Covington area, drove a school bus for the Covington School District and was the Mound Township Trustee in the early 1980's. He was an owner/operator with Krieder Trucking and most recently with Liquid Transport Corp., of Lafayette. He was a member of Benson Chapel United Methodist Church near Covington where he was active in the Reach Out Sunday School Class and was a church trustee. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, enjoyed church fellowship, his work and Indiana basketball. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, February 25, 1999 at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Dillon officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, with full military rites by American Legion Post # 210. Visitation was Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 to 11 a.m. EST Thursday at the church. The family requests that memorials be given to Benson Chapel United Methodist Church Reach Out Sunday School Class, 7114 W. U. S. Highway 136, Covington, Ind. 47932 or Family Hospice of West Central Indiana, 1630 Lafayette Road, Suite 500, Crawfordsville, Ind. 47933. – jlr
